As Christians, we are members of God’s family and household (Ephesians 1:5, 2:19) and called to function, participate, and minister in a particular place within the body of Christ (Romans 12:3-8, 1 Corinthians 12, Hebrews 10:24-25). At First EFC, church membership is a joyful expression of our commitment to one another as a family and is vital to creating and maintaining a spirit of mutual accountability and discipleship.
Membership includes promises to one another but it is first and foremost a promise to God of commitment to His glory and Christ’s bride, the church (Ephesians 3:21, 5:25-32). The goal of church membership is to form relationships with one another that are mutually enriching and shaped by the Scriptures. The commitments of membership are not intended as an addition to the Biblical responsibilities of a believer. Instead, becoming a church member is simply living out of what the Scriptures teach about the nature of faith in Christ and the centrality of corporate “body life” in the local church.
